We’re delighted to be teaming up again with those giants of the industry PledgeMusic for our first show of 2015. Tonight we’ve artists from Dublin to London, Brighton to Copenhagen – in one room for £5/6 – that’s just over a quid a band! (And every penny goes to the acts… as is our way.) In no particular order (we don’t do headliners)…
/// MARSTALL:LIDELL ///
Darlings of Copenhagen Martsal:Lidell are bringing a magical dose of Nordical, magical dream pop from across the water – perfect for the OQH. Memory Is A Dream Machine has been on loop at in our office. They take their cues from contemporaries such as Bat for Lashes, Beach House and Imogen Heap. We’re made up to play host to their first UK show.

/// FIVE GRAND STEREO ///
Five Grand Stereo were described by Music Week as being a journey “… from Lou Reed to Madchester… full of musical depth and packed with sure fire radio hits…” Check the album preview below for a blast of interstellar song dust.
“The idea behind Five Grand Stereo”, says lead songwriter Chris Singleton, “is to take a 1970s band, shove them in a time machine, deposit them in 2014 and ask them to make a record about the world they find themselves in”. The result: a darkly humorous and theatrical concept album (there’s even a Greek chorus) about sex, money and missing David Bowie. Four-part harmonies, duelling guitars, raspy sax and above all, soaring melodies abound; classic artists like Marc Bolan, Brian Ferry, Frank Zappa, Lou Reed and the Thin White Duke himself are frequently referenced sonically, but put through Five Grand Stereo’s proprietary blender to create some delightfully quirky results. Taking aim at everything from reality TV to sexism and from Page 3 to the ‘Big Society’, the band somehow manage to conjure up the sounds of 74…to take a pop at 2014. All while bashing some instantly memorable tunes into your eardrums.
/// SISTERAY ///
Sisteray are like a karate chop and kung-fu kick to the cochlear canal, with a Pixies roundhouse, a Buzzcocks neck chop and a Velvet Underground poke in the eye. They’ve recently sold out the 100 Club and the O2 Islington on pure word of mouth – some rock’n’roll to follow the dream pop and the melodic magic of the other acts, this should be great.
///The Galleons///
6 piece Indie-Folksters The Galleons make their way up from Brighton to open the night with a classy mix of Indie rock with a dash of folk – citing influences from Pentangle to Arcade Fire. Get onto their profile on PledgeMusic and throw some gold in the tin. There’s no headliner on these nights, it’s four acts offering different things, so don’t miss the start.
With the night being a full band showcase it’s a ticketed event and it’s £5 advance or £6 on the door. Doors for the actual show are at 8pm but everyone will be hanging in the pub beforehand so come along whenever. We’re looking forward to welcoming you to our what promises to be an epic line up! All ticket money goes to the bands.
