A top month of new music for Team K members…
SAMANTHA WHATES
Samantha resumes her majestic collaboration with the great MG Boulter for a new collection of songs, Flower Days. In the depths of a Scottish winter, Samantha and M G gathered at Cambo Country House & Estate in Fife to record their third joint project and most conceptually focused to date. The result is an album based around flowers, exploring their quiet persistence and enduring role as carriers of human meaning. It’s every bit as beautiful as you’d imagine, thanks also to the wonderful engineering and production of Douglas Whates. Take a listen here.
It’s everything we’re about… Samantha just keeps writing and recording absolute Grade-A beauty.
RORY SIMMONS
Rory also releases new music this month with one of his alter egos, Harlequiin. London-based alternative-electronic artist, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Harlequiin (Rory) shares the vibrant new single ‘Hand That Move You’ featuring Lisolotte Ostblom. The track blends the experimental electronica that stylises Harlequiin’s sound with the jazz musicianship which has shaped Rory’s career.
Touring and recording with the likes of Jamie Cullum, Blur, Raye, Paolo Nutini, Mount Kimbie, Labrinth, The Maccabees, Friendly Fires, and Dermot Kennedy (to name just a few), Rory has performed at renowned venues such as Montreux Jazz Festival, Carnegie Hall, and the Hollywood Bowl. Simmons has also collaborated with major ensembles like the London Sinfonietta and the Heritage Orchestra. He’s had some wonderful press so far for the project:
“A lush, vibrant return, his pop-edged melodies matched to this lust for life approach that renders each song with a potent euphoria.” – CLASH
“Major love for this track” – Craig Charles, BBC Radio 6 Music
“A cinematic and conceptual approach which has a broader palette, with synths and vaporous computer sounds wrapping around vocals” – THE GUARDIAN
“Creating a unique blend of indie-dance music that will get everyone dancing” – WONDERLAND
“Luscious synth washes together with beautifully chopped and repurposed vocal samples for an intoxicating, heady rush, looping and swirling them to dizzying effect.” – COMPLEX
“Summons his iconoclastic musical vision” – ROUGH TRADE
Take a listen to the record below, and keep your eyes peeled for the new single with Lisolotte.
